Bushfire books

On February 7, 2009, horrendous bushfires swept through rural Victoria and many homes were lost. Books for the World established a book centre and invited people who lost their books in the fires to come and replace them. Thanks to the generosity of the people of Kilmore and surrounding districts, beautiful books were donated and every Saturday morning we opened our doors to book lovers. I had the pleasure of talking books and meeting many new people on those Saturday mornings as we gave away more than two thousand books. Books might not be the first things people miss after a fire, but I know I would miss my books and it was a great pleasure to help people start their collections again.
