Sekolah Gunung Merapi

In 2010, Angharad was studying in Indonesia when disaster struck: Mount Merapi, just 25km away from the city of Yogyakarta in Java erupted, killing hundreds and displacing hundreds of thousands.

Angharad and her friend Ilana rallied their friends and family together and managed to raise over $1,000 for emergency supplies. With a lot of help and guidance from her friend Fajar and his friends and contacts, they managed to take two carloads of supplies up to evacuation camps.

Five years later, Fajar and his partner Yasmin have returned to Merapi and have opened a school to help the people of Kinahrejo village rebuild and retrain in a changing economy.

Books for the World has a long family history with Indonesia and we’re very excited to be able to help our friends and their cause by raising money for much-needed school books, developing their library and building repairs.
